The short version of REV-ERB fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.
Reviewed 2026-08-01. Anything still debated is marked as such rather than presented as settled.
At the molecular level, SR9009 binds the ligand-binding domain of REV-ERB and strengthens recruitment of corepressor proteins such as NCoR and HDAC3. This increases repression of target genes, including Bmal1 and other clock-controlled and metabolic genes. In rodent studies, such changes have been linked to altered lipid handling, glucose metabolism, and energy expenditure. The precise chain of events between receptor binding and whole-body effects remains an active area of research. Findings in animals do not automatically translate to humans.
Laboratory studies often administer SR9009 by injection because oral absorption appears poor in rodents. Reported pharmacokinetic properties include rapid metabolism and low systemic exposure after oral dosing. Human pharmacokinetic data are sparse, so absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion in people are not well defined. Some research explores related REV-ERB compounds with improved drug-like properties. Regulatory approval for any REV-ERB agonist as a human medicine has not been granted to date.
SR9009 is a synthetic small molecule developed as an agonist of the nuclear receptors REV-ERBα (NR1D1) and REV-ERBβ (NR1D2). These receptors help regulate circadian rhythms and metabolic gene expression. In cell and animal studies, SR9009 alters transcription of genes involved in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and mitochondrial function. It is not an approved medicine, and its pharmacological profile in humans remains largely uncharacterized. The compound is frequently discussed in the context of circadian biology and metabolic research rather than clinical use.
Preclinical reports have linked SR9009 to improved endurance and altered energy expenditure in rodents. Such findings have prompted interest in whether REV-ERB activation can influence skeletal muscle metabolism. However, the reported effects depend on dose, route, and experimental model, and replication across laboratories is limited. Human trials have not established comparable outcomes, so claims about exercise performance remain speculative. The absence of controlled human data is a central limitation in interpreting these observations.
The mechanism of action involves binding to REV-ERB receptors and recruiting corepressor complexes, which represses target gene transcription. This contrasts with many nuclear receptor agonists that activate transcription. Downstream effects may include changes in autophagy, mitochondrial biogenesis, and lipid handling, but the precise pathways remain an active area of study. Whether these molecular events translate into meaningful physiological effects in humans is unresolved. Most evidence comes from cultured cells and rodent models rather than human participants.

SR9009 is generally described as poorly soluble in water and more soluble in organic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide and ethanol. Stock solutions are commonly prepared in an organic solvent before dilution into an aqueous buffer or vehicle. Precipitation can occur if the organic fraction is reduced too quickly or if the final concentration exceeds the compound's solubility limit. Sonication or gentle warming may aid dissolution in some protocols, but excessive heat can promote degradation. Container material and pH can also influence observed solubility.
For long-term storage, SR9009 is typically kept as a solid at low temperature, protected from moisture and light. Desiccated conditions limit hydrolysis, while opaque containers reduce photochemical breakdown. Solutions are less stable than solids and are often stored frozen in aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Stability data are not standardized across all suppliers, so users should rely on certificate-of-analysis information when available. Degradation may appear as color change, precipitate, or decreased chromatographic purity.
Laboratory identification of SR9009 typically relies on chromatographic separation coupled to mass spectrometry, often with ultraviolet detection as a secondary check. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy can confirm molecular structure when a reference standard is available. Because many suppliers sell the compound as a research chemical, independent identity testing is important for experimental reproducibility. A single retention time is not sufficient proof of identity, especially when related compounds may be present. Purity assessments usually report a percentage based on area normalization.
Handling recommendations for SR9009 in a laboratory setting include storing the solid at low temperature, protected from light and moisture. The compound is often dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide or ethanol for experiments. Solutions should be prepared with appropriate personal protective equipment and disposed of according to local rules. Stability data for long-term storage are limited, so stock solutions are typically kept cold and used within defined periods. Records of preparation date and concentration support reproducibility.
SR9009 is not approved as a medicine by major regulatory agencies. It is commonly sold as a research chemical, a category that may fall outside customary drug approval and quality rules. In sports, the World Anti-Doping Agency lists SR9009 as a prohibited substance. Athletes who use it can face sanctions if it is detected in a sample. Legal status varies by country, and importation may be restricted. Enforcement practices differ across borders.
Detection of SR9009 in biological samples usually employs liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. This method can identify the parent compound and sometimes metabolites in urine or blood. Because exposure can be low and clearance may be rapid, sample timing and limits of detection matter. Laboratories validate assays for sensitivity and specificity. Results are interpreted alongside chain-of-custody and quality-control records. Urine is the common matrix for anti-doping analysis, while blood may be used in research settings.
In 1965, with at least 500 shareholders and on the cusp of bankruptcy, National Semiconductor went "marginally" publicly traded through Pink Sheets at a starting price of $3. Alan Lopato was the market maker with a list of significant shareholders. Due to Rothlein's lack of belief in integrated circuits, and before Sporck was hired, Jack Hegarty replaced Dr Rothlein as CEO, and Don Lucas became chairman, immediately followed by Peter Sprague becoming chairman. In 1966, Sprague hired five top executives away from Fairchild, among whom were Charles E. Sporck, Pierre Lamond, Don Valentine, Floyd Kvamme. At the time of Sporck's hiring, Robert Noyce was de facto head of semiconductor operations at Fairchild and Sporck was his operations manager. Sporck was appointed president and CEO of National. To make the deal better for Sporck's hiring and appointment at half his former salary at Fairchild, Sporck was allotted a substantial share of National's stock. Sporck also brought over three other people from TI, Perkin-Elmer, and Hewlett-Packard to form a new eight-man team at National Semiconductor. The group was allotted 9.6% of the company's stock and after the deal was announced, the stock soared from $3-$4 to $24. Sporck had been Widlar's superior at Fairchild before Widlar left Fairchild to join Molectro after a compensation dispute with Sporck. In 1968, National shifted its headquarters from Danbury, Connecticut, to Santa Clara, California. However, like many companies, National retained its registration as a Delaware corporation, for legal and financial expediency.
== Etymology == The name pyrite is derived from the Greek πυρίτης λίθος (pyritēs lithos), 'stone or mineral which strikes fire', in turn from πῦρ (pŷr), 'fire'. In ancient Roman times, this name was applied to several types of stone that would create sparks when struck against steel; Pliny the Elder described one of them as being brassy, almost certainly a reference to what is now called pyrite. By Georgius Agricola's time, c. 1550, the term had become a generic term for all of the sulfide minerals.
After the talks, Xi met with US business executives who joined the trip, telling them China's door would only open wider to US businesses, and that US companies were deeply involved in the Chinese economy, benefiting both sides. Afterwards, Xi and Trump visited the Temple of Heaven, which Trump called a "Great place, incredible", adding "China's beautiful". This made Trump the second US president to visit the Temple while in office, after President Gerald Ford did so in 1975. Later, Xi hosted Trump for a dinner banquet at the Golden Room of the Great Hall of the People. Xi gave a speech, where he said the "great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" and "make America great again" can go hand in hand. He called the China–US relationship the most important in the world, adding that it concerns the well-being of the two countries of 1.7 billion population, and the interests of over 8 billion people in the world. After concluding his speech, he raised a toast to the development and future of the two countries. Afterwards, Trump gave a speech, praising the "magnificent welcome like no other" and said, "It was a great honour to be with Xi". He talked about the history of the relationship between two nations, saying "Benjamin Franklin published the sayings of Confucius in his colonial newspaper" and said a sculpture of Confucius was "carved into the face of the United States Supreme Court". He added "At the request of China's ambassador, it was president Theodore Roosevelt who provided the funds to establish Xi Jinping's alma mater, Tsinghua University".

=== Economics === Pembrolizumab was priced at US$150,000 per year when it launched in 2014. It was added to the Cancer Drugs Fund list of NHS England in November 2022 after a deal with manufacturer Merck Sharp and Dohme, the details of which remain confidential. Keytruda was the world's top-selling drug in 2024, with $29.5 billion in sales.
=== Key and Combat pages === After clearing a battle, the player will receive books of the defeated enemies. Burning these books randomly gives the player Key pages and Combat pages, color-coded based on rarity and quantity. Key pages serve as the game's "armor" items and can be assigned to the librarians. Each gives unique stats, damage resistances, and passives. Key pages can only be obtained in limited amounts. For game progression purposes, players' Key pages may not share the same strengths or vulnerabilities with the characters as enemies. Combat pages are the game's "weapon" items. Some Combat pages are unique to a specific character and their Key pages. Pages will have at least one offensive (attacking an enemy) or defensive (defending against attacks or dodging attacks entirely) die, color-coded in red and blue, respectively. The unique yellow-colored "Counter" die is played against an unopposed Combat page and can replay upon winning a clash until the unopposed Combat page ends. While most Combat pages are melee, there are ranged Combat pages that take action before Melee pages, Mass Attack pages that take first action regardless of Speed, and On Play pages that take effect immediately upon selecting a target.
== Life cycle == Adult brown recluse spiders often live about one to two years. Each female produces several egg sacs over a period of two to three months, from May to July, with approximately 50 eggs in each sac. The eggs hatch in about one month. The spiderlings take about one year to grow to adulthood. The brown recluse spider is resilient and can tolerate up to six months of extreme drought and scarcity or absence of food. On one occasion, a brown recluse survived in controlled captivity for over five seasons without any food at all. As part of the haplogynae, brown recluses do not balloon, which limits their ability to widely disperse geographically. The brown recluse will, though not habitually, cannibalize another if food becomes scarce; especially during its typical mating season from June to September or when an unreceptive female encounters an aggressive male.
In vitro, VPg-RNA conjugates were translated with similar efficiency to m7G-capped RNAs indicating that VPg binds eIF4E and engages the translation machinery; while free VPg (in the absence of conjugated RNA) successfully competes for all the cap-dependent activities of eIF4E in the cell inhibiting translation and RNA export.

1938: American botanists Elzada U Clover and Lois Jotter were the first women to catalog plant life in the Grand Canyon and the first to raft the entire length of the Colorado River 1939: Austrian-Swedish physicist Lise Meitner, along with Otto Hahn, led the small group of scientists who first discovered nuclear fission of uranium when it absorbed an extra neutron; the results were published in early 1939. 1939: French physicist Marguerite Perey discovered the chemical element francium. 1939: Indian biochemist Kamala Sohonie became the first Indian woman to receive a PhD in a scientific discipline in 1939.
One contemporary news article claimed the murder was related to "the demoniac rites of West African savages, from whom Voodoo practices were transferred to West Indian Negroes, and from them to the United States."
=== Anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents === Glucocorticoids can be used in the short term and at the lowest dose possible for flare-ups and while waiting for slow-onset drugs to take effect. Combination of glucocorticoids and conventional therapy has shown a decrease in rate of erosion of bones. Steroids may be injected into affected joints during the initial period of RA, before the use of DMARDs or oral steroids. Non-NSAID drugs to relieve pain, like paracetamol may be used to help alleviate the pain symptoms; they do not change the underlying disease. The use of paracetamol may be associated with the risk of developing ulcers. NSAIDs reduce both pain and stiffness in those with RA but do not affect the underlying disease and appear to have no effect on people's long term disease course and thus are no longer first line agents. NSAIDs should be used with caution in those with gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, or kidney problems. Rofecoxib was withdrawn from the global market as its long-term use was associated to an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Use of methotrexate together with NSAIDs is safe, if adequate monitoring is done. COX-2 inhibitors, such as celecoxib, and NSAIDs are equally effective. A 2004 Cochrane review found that people preferred NSAIDs over paracetamol. However, it is yet to be clinically determined whether NSAIDs are more effective than paracetamol. The neuromodulator agents, topical capsaicin, may be reasonable to use in an attempt to reduce pain.
== Applications == In biology, this technique may be used to determine the tissue (or cell) localization of a radioactive substance, either introduced into a metabolic pathway, bound to a receptor or enzyme, or hybridized to a nucleic acid. Applications for autoradiography are broad, ranging from biomedical to environmental sciences to industry.
Physical exercise is often recommended as a means of improving motor skills, fitness, muscle and bone strength, and joint function. Exercise has several effects upon muscles, connective tissue, bone, and the nerves that stimulate the muscles. One such effect is muscle hypertrophy, an increase in size of muscle due to an increase in the number of muscle fibers or cross-sectional area of myofibrils. Muscle changes depend on the type of exercise used. Generally, there are two types of exercise regimes, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercise (e.g. marathons) involves activities of low intensity but long duration, during which the muscles used are below their maximal contraction strength. Aerobic activities rely on aerobic respiration (i.e. citric acid cycle and electron transport chain) for metabolic energy by consuming fat, protein, carbohydrates, and oxygen. Muscles involved in aerobic exercises contain a higher percentage of Type I (or slow-twitch) muscle fibers, which primarily contain mitochondrial and oxidation enzymes associated with aerobic respiration. On the contrary, anaerobic exercise is associated with activities of high intensity but short duration, such as sprinting or weight lifting. The anaerobic activities predominately use Type II, fast-twitch, muscle fibers. Type II muscle fibers rely on Gluconeogenesis for energy during anaerobic exercise. During anaerobic exercise, type II fibers consume little oxygen, protein and fat, produce large amounts of lactic acid and are fatigable.
